When selecting new upvc lever pad door handles it is crucial to make sure that they correspond to the PZ (distance between the handle spindle and the centre of the hole in the cylinder) of your existing multipoint door locks, as these need to be in line for the doors to remain locked, either from the inside or outside. Our handles are designed to fit a wide range of conventional cylinders, but it is a good idea to double-check before purchasing.
You will need to remove your handles that you have already installed and then dismantle the lock case if you're upgrading to dual spindle handle levers since this will require a split cylinder inline. These can be bought separately and we offer the complete technical diagram for you to examine in the images for each product.
After you have removed the screws holding your existing door handle it is an ideal idea to loosen them and examine the mechanism to determine what condition it is in. If the screws are too tight, you may need to loosen them more. Then, you can remove the spindle from the door handle and replace it with your new upvc handle. Before putting the handle in position, it is recommended to ensure that it is in the right position, and you can do this by inserting your finger in the gap between the frame of the door and the door handle to ensure that it is level.
Lever/Lever
Lever door handles operate a multi point lock using a Euro Cylinder and are found on the majority of upvc double doors, aluminium doors and some wooden doors. They are equipped with a lever inside and an outside paddle and are usually supplied in two varieties. Sprung - these have a spring cassette fitted inside the backplate to bring the handle lever to an upright position. Non-sprung: They do not have a mechanism for bringing the handle lever to a horizontal angle.
To fix a sagging door handle lever you'll need to locate the detent access pin or hole. It's usually a small hole or protruding ring or rectangular located on the handle base plate. Once you've located it, you can loosen the set screw with the help of a screwdriver, and then remove it to release the lever and return it to the horizontal position.
Once the handle has been positioned horizontally, you can put back the screws. Close them to ensure that the handle is securely connected to the base plate. Consider applying a threadlocking product to the threads of the screw to increase grip and prevent the threads from becoming loose over time.
Drooping lever door handles can be caused by many factors. The most common reason is that the fixings have been over tightened and are putting stress on the bearings of the lever, causing it to bind against the door's face. It could also be due to the fact that the levers aren't being operated in a straight line and this is causing compression of the latch mechanism preventing it from fully springing back into action.
Another common cause is that the sprung lever isn't operating correctly and this is usually due to the spring not being in the correct position within the backplate. To determine if the handle returns to horizontal, simply move it.
It is crucial to fix any loose door handles as soon as you can. This could lead to excessive wear on the screws and the handle might fall off the base plate. You should also tighten any loose screws regularly to prevent them from becoming looser.
Lever/Snib
The handles for doors made of upvc are also known as handle sets with a 'Snib' and have a snib lever towards the top of the lever that you can push down to lock your door if you don't use an fake lock. They usually come with a Fullex 68PZ (that's 68mm between the spindle's centre and the lever or the lock centre) door lock. We also have a selection of door handles 68PZ from manufacturers such as Ferco and Fab & Fix.
